Dr. Lorie White

Practice Owner

Looking for an experienced, compassionate vet in Matthews? You found her at Caring Hearts Animal Hospital, with Dr. Lorie White! When she was just 4 years old, she told her mother that she wanted to become a veterinarian when she grew up. She never wavered from her conviction, and after more than 30 years on the job, she’s still as passionate about veterinary care as she was as a kid! Dr. White was born in Hilliard, OH, and relocated with her family to Kentucky when she was 11.

After her undergraduate schooling at Morehead State University, she attended Auburn University Veterinary School, then moved to Charlotte, NC. After working for 13 years as an associate veterinarian, she decided it was time to start her own practice and opened Caring Hearts Animal Hospital in 2004. As a vet, Dr. White enjoys puppy vaccine visits and helping clients understand all the things they can do to give their pets the healthiest life possible. She also likes surgery because she has the tools and solutions in her grasp.

Dr. White shares her house with her wife, Paula. They have two dogs, Oakley and Roo, as well as three cats named Kit, Dottie, and Misty. Dr. White is a big sports fan and loves the Atlanta Braves—one day she wants to travel and see the Braves play in many ballparks around the country. She also likes cheering on her alma mater, Auburn, and the Carolina Panthers. When time allows, she enjoys camping and hiking with her dogs.

Dr. Laura Morefield

Dr. Morefield decided long ago (when she was five years old, to be exact) that she wanted to be a veterinarian, and she never gave up on that dream. At Caring Hearts, we consider ourselves lucky that she was determined to make that happen, as now we can offer her expertise to our clients!

After growing up in Northern Virginia as one of four kids, Dr. Morefield pursued both her undergrad and veterinary degree at Virginia Tech (go Hokies!) making Blacksburg her official home away from home. She’s no stranger to hard work, and has held various positions while growing up, including being a kennel cleaner at vet hospitals, selling beer at a baseball park, and even working for the FBI in Quantico, Virginia!

Today, Dr. Morefield resides with her husband of 29 years, their three dogs, and two cats. While they are very well-traveled, in more recent years they’ve nested into the joy of being homebodies and taking care of their property and beloved pets.

Dr. Morefield’s hobbies include hot yoga, woodworking, “upcycling” antiques, and dog training. She has competed in multiple agility and trick competitions with her own pets (specifically her two younger Blue Heelers, Carly and Jyn), including the “So You Think You Can Bark” competition and the AKC Virtual Trick Competition, in which she won second and first place. The newest addition to the family is her dog, McGee. All have differing personalities, but are loved equally!

Dr. Morefield is a woman of many skills, but as far as veterinary preferences, her favorite things to do are surgeries, acupuncture, and physical therapy on dogs and cats.
